Originating from Coorg and Mangalore, Neer Dosa is a light, soft dosa. At first it seems really easy to make, but getting that soft consistency proved to be quite an uphill task. Finally we managed to make some pretty decent ones.
Neer Dosa
2 cups Raw Rice
Salt, to taste
Oil, fry frying
Wash and soak the rice for 2-3 hours (I soaked it overnight). Then grind to a very thin paste. Remove from the grinder and add salt and water to make a very thin consistency. (And when it says thin, it has to be just a little thicker than water! Otherwise, it just doesn't get cooked on the dosa pan.)..
Heat the dosa tava, apply a little oil and pour one ladleful of batter so it spreads in a thin, even layer. Cover and keep for a second. Then remove it carefully.
They were quite lovely towards the end! I served it with coconut chutney and tomato curry.
This is for Valli's Dosa Mela at Cooking4allseasons.

In reply to your query for the yeast in my blog :
one pkt has 1/4 OZ which makes it approx 2 1/4 tsp.if u have the same..then go for it..or u can measure out the spoons and use them..even if u have 2 tsp, it shud suffice.

@ DK - Far from perfect - not sure about ridges and valleys all over the dosa! But oh well, not bad either. Thanks for the yeast info - got the other ingredients.
@ Deepika - I've always been a little intimidated by Neer Dosa, but figured the Dosa Mela was a good opportunity to try it!

@ sagari and lavi - thanks so much! :)
hi Arundhati, very nice dosa, how come so pearly white, sorry i'm very poor in south indian dishes, looks very nice, feels like making now n eating ....
Hi Neha - Thanks! Hmmm I'm assuming its so white because its only raw rice - there are basically no other ingredients!
This is really different and interesting looking!
How do you grind rice? Do you use a food processor? I'm not sure mine will be able to grind rice, any reccomendations?
Hi Ranjani - thanks for stopping by. You could use a food processor, but it never gets as fine as you'd like.
Ground Raw Rice can be bought as such in the store.
Thanks for recommendation, I'll be on the hunt for ground raw rice, It'll be a first!!
They are quite easy to find - especially in Indian store. I'm sure the International foods aisles or a Whole Foods will definitely carry it.
Thanks!
Will check it out over the weekend!
you are very welcome - i hope you find it...
Found raw rice at Whole Foods!
Going to make the dosa this weekend:)
Yaay!
