Argh!

I bought a MacBook couple of years ago. In June 2006 to be exact. It crashed in Dec 2006. They said it was a common problem with MacBooks, and they replaced the hard drive. I lost everything. After that, every month I backed up all my information. For 6 months. Then I got complacent thinking it can't happen again.

One year later, in Dec 2007, it crashed again. This time I lost everything again and they replaced the hard drive ... again.

Now its June 2008, and it crashed again TODAY. I hadn't backed it up. Yup, thought how could it happen THREE times? I lost all my recipes, bookmarks, files, photos, folders, miscellaneous information. Everything.

I'm so bummed. I'm a huge Apple fan and just can't possibly think of buying a non-Apple laptop (gasp!). Sigh. This is a warning to those who don't back up. Please do. Please!

All my recipes that I've been religiously trying out and perfecting are gone. Gone.

I'm off to wallow in self-pity and (secretly) bash Apple around a bit in my head.

Ohhhh that is so bad Arundathi.
I can imagine how you are feeling, I felt completely lost when we changed the laptop & were only backing up, formatting and reinstalling everything and could not access my data at that time.

Let me know if I can be of any help in gathering everything together again.

have the time machine installed and back up everyday on a hard drive. i don't know what the deal with laptops is. they crash way more often than desktops.

our macbook hasn't crashed yet, but i guess it's gonna happen sooner or later.

Oh man! That really sucks. You poor girl.
It isn't your blog that's disappeared though right? Can a blog disappear as well like Deeba said?

Thank you for reminding me ... time to back-up everything.

I am so sorry to hear that. I am using an old PowerBook and haven't backed up for a long time. You reminded me of important work that I have to finish first. Thanks.

Thanks everyone - Yes lessons learned

- backing up is key. whenever wherever - just back up everything!

- if possible, partition the hard drive (into for ex. C and D drives. and store all the imp stuff on the drive which doesn't have the s/ware. Incase one crashes the other is accessible.

- get the time machine if you use Apple (as Bee said above - thanks Bee). I've got to install it as soon as the service people give me my computer back.

- if you are thinking of Apple, don't get the MacBook - the MacBook Pro is much better!

Yes, Bharti - the blog can disappear - I've heard it happen to lots of people and as I'm writing this, I realize I've never backed mine up. Its a nightmare to lose it, I'm sure. I just don't know how I'm supposed to back-up something like that. Will figure it out and let you know if you want.

Using my old outdated Compaq right now - sigh - there's really nothing like Apple though when it works right! :D

Thanks for the link for blog back ups Arundathi and the info too about the Mac books. Its hard to have the fact sink into you when you loose your hard drive in such a way. There are soo many tidbits apart from the bulk that you loose and they keep haunting you...I hope this is the last time you would have to go through this.

That SUCKS! Anyway, now lesson learned, so go with Windows... No more Macs, okay? :)
